How to make Candy Sushi

Candy Sushi!

Candy Sushi

Candy Sushi made with Rice Crispy Treats, Fruit Roll Ups and other candy.

I have a friend I work with who is leaving for greener pastures, and I wanted to make her something special as a goodbye gift. She loves candy and sushi, so I thought the perfect thing would be Candy Sushi! I saw various versions of it on Pinterest, and it looked easy and adorable. It is a sweet treat and a crafty no bake one at that. They would be really fun for a Japanese themed party or even as dessert for a real sushi dinner.

They are easy to make with some assembly. There is a lot of candy involved and it made my grocery cart look like I had a serious sugar addiction! It turned out to be fun for Coda and I as an after school activity to do together. We did end up eating way more candy than is usual in our house for sure.

How to make candy sushi

Coda made the “sashimi” out of air heads candy.

To make the “Sushi” rolls:

We used pre-made rice crispy treats. They come with 8 in a box.

Fruit roll-ups. We got the variety pack.

Gummy worms. We got the regular and the sour.

Take a rolling pin and roll out the rice crispy treats to flatten them out. Lay the flattened rice crispy treat over a sheet of fruit roll up. Then place a couple of gummy worms across the rice crispy treat. Then roll it up so that the fruit roll up touches on the seam side. Make sure it is as tight of a roll as you are able to get. Then trim into the small rolls with a sharp knife.

For the Nordic Fish “Sashimi”

Rice crispy treats

Nordic gummy fish. I got the variety pack.

Fruit roll ups.

Roll the rice crispy treats out with a rolling pin the same as above to flatten. Then cut them into 8 small rectangle shapes. Place a Nordic fish on top. Press to shape the rice crispy treat to the shape of the Nordic fish. Cut thin strips of fruit roll up and wrap around the fish and pressing it lightly at the bottom of the rice crispy treat. Tah dah! So easy.

Coda made the little air head taffy sashimi you see in the picture above. She warmed it up slightly in the microwave for about 8 seconds then cut the tail with a knife and scored the fish fins with the knife and shaped it around the rice crispy treat the same as with the Nordic fish.

I hope you have fun making these for an event sometime, surprising everyone, I know we did. Everyone at work was kind of fascinated by them. It brought out the little kid in everyone!
