For this Friday evening’s cocktail hour, (ok, so it was more like 3 hours) some friends and I enjoyed some fresh fruity Sangria. I wanted to try something a little different from the traditional, you know, go bohemian with it, and decided on this passion fruit kiwi recipe. I was not able to find plain passion fruit juice, so I opted for apple, passion mango and pineapple juices. The oranges I found at the grocery store looked like little ruby grapefruits when I cut into them. They were sweet and delicious oranges though. I plan to get some more of them and make something, not sure what yet. Got any suggestions?
To make the Sangria you will need:
2 oranges cut up into wedges
2 limes cut up into wedges
2 kiwi fruits. skins removed (I cut the ends off and just slice the skins off with my knife)
1 can of frozen concentrate apple, mango, passion fruit juice
1 can frozen concentrate pineapple juice. By all means if you have a juicer to make any of the juice fresh, this would taste even better!
1 bottle of sparking sweet Asti wine. I used the Mia Dolcea Moscato D’ Asti.
1/2 cup of Cherry Brandy
Splash of ginger ale
Ice
In a pitcher, add the sliced fruit, 4 cups of the juices, the entire bottle of wine, 1/2 cup of cherry brandy. Stir to mix well. In the glass you will be using, add ice and pour mixture over ice, top off with the ginger ale and garnish with a slice of kiwi. Enjoy a little taste of summer!
