When you first walk into the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, your senses are at once bombarded in that oh so stimulating way that only Las Vegas can deliver. The sights with the video pillars constantly changing to the music and the smells of cigars and perfume and what is that smell? Sniff sniff…is that money?
I recently returned from a trip to Las Vegas.. While there I stayed at the very glamorous Cosmopolitan Hotel. The room I stayed in had a balcony, which is unusual for a Las Vegas hotel room. Talk about chic and stylish! The decor was not your run of the mill boring hotel for sure. Details abounded with Fornasetti wallpaper adorning the closet, iridescent tiling on the bathroom shower, down pillows on the settee… There were books published by Phaidon Press for reading and the room even included 2 TV’s (which was overkill for me since I don’t really ever watch) and a kitchenette with stocked minibar and a microwave.
Much of the trip was spent in the hotel itself. Of course there were meals enjoyed, including Scarpetta, Holstiens, D.O.C.G Enoteca and cocktails in a few of the bars, including Vespar and the Chandelier Bar.
At Scarpetta, a restraunt by chef Scott Conant, I had the Tagliatelle with vegetables, truffle zabaglione & guanciale. Often when eating in upscale restaurants you leave with your wallet and stomach feeling empty. The portions were perfect and the flavor of my meal was exquisite. The truffle zabaglione was rich and earthy, and the guanciale is as you would expect meat candy or Italian bacon to taste, smoky and delish.
At Scott Conant’s other restaurant, D.O.C.G, Enoteca a rustic yet upscale take on casual Italian, pizza and arancini were enjoyed. The Calabiran chile aioli that came with the arancini made us want to lick the bowl! The mushroom pizza I had included sottocenre, fontina & truffle which again was an earthy and smoky combination. Overall the food was a memorable culinary experience.
The room was sophisticated and made me feel like I was living in a fantasy for a few days. Bohemian in the commonly known sense it was not, yet fashionably exotic with a jet set feel that any boho traveler could appreciate. Glamorous, stylish and very…cosmopolitan it was.
One thing about Las Vegas is there is so much to experience and see that it is hard for me to want to stay at the same place twice. I would consider going back to the Cosmopolitan again, maybe next time trying the pillow butler, please send me my aromatherapy pillow in bergamot scent…luxury ah yeah…
